Feel My Pain: Why We Need EMPATHY

Feel My Pain: Why We Need EMPATHY

A lot is going on in the world right now. We are in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic, and people are dying at record rates. Businesses are shutting down, left and right. People are losing their jobs, and remaining unemployed. Many households are left without any income, and no clue when more money will come. There are people going hungry, no food to eat. There are people losing their homes, no place to lay their heads. And there are those that are struggling and are in despair, lacking all of it, including clean water to drink. Their basic needs, food, clothing and shelter, are not being met.

Millions are suffering, experiencing varying degrees of pain due to the coronavirus pandemic.

This alone is heartbreaking.

However, In the midst of ALL of this, we are also experiencing a time of civil unrest.

So Many Black People Have Been Buried, Murdered.

So Many Souls Taken, Their Values, An Afterthought.

So Many Rest In Peace Statements.

So Many Hashtags and Remembering of Her Name and His Name.

People are protesting in many ways, on the streets (risking their own demise), on their screens (posting pictures, videos, and comments), at their jobs (forcing employers to take a second look at their policies) and with their friends (initiating “uncomfortable” conversations).

In so many different ways, people are saying No More…

No More Injustices,

No More Turning A Blind Eye To The Disparities,

No More Living In A Bubble And Pretending That None Of It Exists.

People Are Screaming, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

Black people especially are TIRED!

Tired Of All Of It,

The Hurt, The Pain, The Deaths, The Sayings.

It Is All Very Draining…Mentally, Physically, And Emotionally.

WE ARE TIRED!!!

We are saying No more black people dying at the hands of police, the very people that supposedly took an oath to serve and protect them.

No more sacrificing of black faces because of the presumptions of those of other races.

No more justification of our untimely deaths/murders/killings by the hands of those who decided to take the law into their own hands, acting as the judge and the executioner.

The crimes committed under the guise of fearing for their life, feeling threatened, incorrectly reacting to sudden movements, mistaken identities, assumed guilty until proven innocent has been exposed over and over.

We are not buying that excuse, and, we never did because we looked at the facts, the statistics, and our real-world, everyday life experiences.

Now, however, in today’s society, more people are able to see what we’ve always known, What the countless videos and viral stories are showing…

Black People Are NOT Treated Equally;

Black People Do Not Have the Same Access to Things

Black People are Very Quickly Judged by the Color of Our skin.

Black People are Significant and In Need of Protection

Black people, an oppressed people.

A people once enslaved for years, still suffering the effects in enormous proportions.

How long will it go on?

When will it end?

Who will be the agents of change?

All answers point to Empathy.

Empathy is the ability and the capacity to put oneself in someone else’s shoes, to feel a pain not directly done to you, to understand a perspective outside your own.

Empathy is to feel the hurt of someone else without having to experience the situation that lead to the outcome directly.

Empathy is to see, feel, understand and for a moment, become someone else by experiencing what they are experiencing, without bringing your own perspective or opinions to it. It is simply seeing things as they see it, interpreting it the same manner, and feeling the same emotions.

Some people have It, some people lack It, EMPATHY.

Sadly, the percentage of people in leadership positions that lack empathy is seemingly greater than the percentage of people that have it. Based solely on the number of years that the status quo has remained unchanged. The same “doing business as usual mentality that lead to the same group of people (black people) suffering disproportionately.

Unfortunately, the actions and decisions of people in leadership positions are painting a clear picture of their lack-thereof.

Generations after generations are making the same demands, asking for the same problems to be solved.

Give Us Equality, Justice, Access, all things that are ATTAINABLE and Should Definitely Be ACHIEVED.

With MORE people in LEADERSHIP positions been empathetic about issues pertaining to inequalities, injustices and disparities, the current Black Lives Matter Movement Would Result In A New Reality.

It is time that actions speak louder than words and I hope that anybody that can do something, anything, even if they think it is minuscule, does it and does it fast!

May Our Tomorrow Become Today, As We All Live In This Moment And Act In This Moment.

For Tomorrow May Never Come For Another Black Child, Father or Mother,

Let’s Not Wait To Make The Change That Is So Desperately Needed Today.
